Hell Is Other Horses

February 14 – April 14, 2026 | Public Land Gallery, Sacramento

Through recurring imagery such as teardrops, snakes, horses, butterflies, and melting forms, the artists grapple with psychological states of anxiety and awe, using symbolism as a language for what resists direct articulation. In doing so, the work places this warped vision of nature within the broader reality of a civilization that has generated profound harm. This exhibition moves between sincerity and distortion, beauty and collapse. It asks what it means to romanticize the natural world while participating in its unraveling.

About the Artists

Anson Cyr

Anson Cyr is a San Francisco–based multidisciplinary artist whose practice explores the challenges of translation, the weight of empty nostalgia, and the violence of not knowing what has truly been stolen from us. His work has appeared in solo exhibitions including Tears Form Tierra at Four Barrel (2024), Familiar Friend at MRKT Gallery (2022), and Hueco at Ladrón Galleria in Mexico City (2021), as well as a featured show A Low Spirit at Adobe Books Backroom (2024). Cyr has also participated in notable group exhibitions such as Gas 2 SF at Public Land Gallery (2025), Pack at Good Mother Gallery (2023–24), and Animal Magnetism at Campfire Gallery (2016), and his collaborative Friendship exhibition with Marisela Villanueva opened at HIT Gallery in 2024. In addition to his own work, Cyr has curated exhibitions like Ice Cream Truck at Good Mother Gallery (2023), underscoring his commitment to fostering community and experimental art.

Amanda Wong

Amanda Wong died tragically at the age of thirty five. But not before losing her hand to the bite of a Tasmanian tiger, outswimming a Malaysian tidal wave, and surviving the trampling of a rabid bison herd. She drowned during an ill-fated expedition when her ship fell victim to a melting glacier.

She died with no money, reason or qualifications.
